We Need a Hero (A Short Message to the Students)

Dear Students: Shooting. Shooting. Shooting.

Violence is the reality in this society we've given you, a society that's celebrated violence, sold you violence, worshiped at the altar of violence. We've created this society for you, handed you like an unwanted present. We've given you the ultimate anti-sacrament--death.

I am grieved.

The scriptures say to mourn with those who mourn, and though the words of adults have become little more than clanging symbols, I'm mourning with you.

Keep using your voices. Keep walking out, sitting in, whatever. Keep marching. Keep showing us the blood. Keep it in the front of our minds. Keep us accountable for the filicide we seem hell-bent on perpetuating or at least protecting.
