Amber and I resolved to read through the bible this year, and each of us have already begun picking up on different themes. She has begun delving into kingdom themes--the monarchical metaphors of the Old Testament, the words of Christ in the New. On the other hand, I have been struck by the sheer number of verses associating violence with wickedness.

We have been in precarious times as long as I can remember--there was the Cold War, the L.A. Riots, Oklahoma City, Columbine, 9/11, and now this. It seems that things have changed little since the days of the psalmists. Men are born with tragedies in their hearts, and the working out of those tragedies breeds more of the same. We live an endless cycle of violence.

Is there a cure?

*Throughout this year, I'm doing a bit of an instagram word-art series. For a taste of what I've been up to, follow this link.
